After not being fishing for about 9 months my time had finally come that I could go fishing again. Cannot say how excited I was as its been like missing a leg not being able to fish so the chosen venue was Tirley Court a very easy to access carp venue and has disable access which was dead handy for me even thought I m almost fixed I still would struggle carrying all my carp kit. Whilst on the subject massive thank you to venues that give easy access to anglers who struggle as it really does help.
Anyway less of the waffle and lets talk carp fishing !
Venue
Tirley Court –
Tirley Village between Gloucester and Tewksbury. Consists of three lakes, two course and one pure carp fishing. Strict carp mats and you must dip your nets ect. Not boilies and the list of rules goes on …… £6.00 a day and you can fish from 7am till 8.30pm strictly no night fishing. Ok it’s a commercial water but nice and clean and no idiots allowed plus you would have to do something very wrong not to catch on this carp lake. >> Map
The Bait
With a no boilies rule so choose Solar Wedges shrimp and octopus flavour with a base of crushed hemp socked in big shot or Tesco hemp oil ( very high quaintly hemp oil at good price )
Hear is my mixers ready to go
I’m a massive fan of hemp and crushed hemp is just a killer on lakes . One thing I like to do is get 5 litres on pour in a couple of bottles of hemp oil up to 48 hours before fishing. Mix it up and then seal the lid and let is truly soak in.
A killer for carp in a pva bag or part of your spod mix and also for rivers banging the roach or even barbel
My rig with crushed hemp to get the carp feeding
Rigs
Well this might sound strange but I’m big into safety zones i.e. the fish does not knock into the mainline so…….
Hair rigs with Korda Wide Gape B size 8 hooks made with Korda Hybrid braid a coated braid that makes your hair length much stiff thus stands off from your lead better
Korda Hybrid Braid
Clipped on to a running lead on 45lb leader core with a stop bead 6 inches above the lead and to make it even more weird looking about two foot above the stop bead on the lead core I have a Korda flying back lead . This rig means that the rig is nailed to the bottom for about 4 foot and although a bit hard to cast is well worth the trouble as the carp has no chance of getting spooked , with the bolt bead as soon as the carp feels the resistance the hook is in its lip.
Tactics
Not spoding just casting every 20 mins till the marks start to produce
The Carp fishing
Once I had sorted my kit out and got comfortable I had a few practice casts to get my eye in and boy was it a good idea that I did as its amazing how your casting goes rust after a few months !
So I choose two areas to put my baits in number 2 was a raise mud bar and Number 1 the other was a small whole
Choose this peg as the wind had
been hitting the bank for a few days
been hitting the bank for a few days
So rods out I got behind them like a kid at a party and weighted for the screaming of the bait runners to get me into action.
Just waiting for the bleep
Within 30 mins the No 2 mark produces a 12lb carp and that how it fished a carp every 45 mins switching between the marks. It was very excited seeing a massive cloud of silt being kicked up as the carp first moved in !
One of the small ones
So in my 6 hour trip ( got nacked and had to stop) I had 7 carp two only about 5lb four carp between 11lb and 15lb and a nice one that went like a bullet hitting the scales at 19lb 6oz.
All the runs were reel screamers as the rig I use just hooks them as soon as they turn or try to eject the bait as the 3oz lead comes into play
All in all a great day not to busy but did not sit there catching flies. And it just good to finally do a catch report although it is full of poor grammer and spelling mastacks LOL
You can tell Ive not been fishing as my tackle box is way to tidy
One thing I must learn is how to set the timer on my camera and get some piccys of me with a fish
